Explore the UGA Insect Zoo

Discover an incredible collection of live insects and arachnids from around the world! The UGA Insect Zoo is home to 30-40 species at any given time, with exhibits changing throughout the year as native and seasonal species are added.

During your visit, you may encounter:

  • Beetles
  • Stick and leaf insects (phasmids)
  • Tarantulas, spiders, scorpions, and other arachnids
  • Roaches
  • Seasonal butterflies and moths (lepidoptera)

One of the highlights of the Insect Zoo is the opportunity to interact with many of the animals. With guidance from an experienced educator, visitors may have the opportunity to safely hold or touch select live insects.

Be sure to explore our "Wow Boxes," featuring some of the world's largest, rarest, and most fascinating insects alongside a variety of native Georgia species.

  • Yes, please book a time with us to visit the zoo. We offer 15-minute drop-in slots, 30-minute quick tours, and 1 hour full tours.

  • Visiting the zoo is FREE of charge.

  • The Insect Zoo is located at 120 Cedar Street, Cedar Street Building B, Room 453, Athens, Ga.

    Directions to the UGA Insect Zoo

  • We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes early to find parking on campus. We don't currently have designated parking spots for the zoo, so we recommend parking at the South Campus Deck, since it is the closest visitor parking.

  • Visit the donation link below, determine your gift amount for the UGA Department of Entomology and earmark the donation for the Insect Zoo in the "Special Instructions" box.

  • For a $25 donation, visitors can take home a UGA Department of Entomology canvas bag, and for $15, visitors can take home a UGA Department of Entomology mug!

Finding the UGA Insect Zoo

The entrance to the Insect Zoo is located on the right side of Cedar Street Building B (when facing the building from Cedar Street), near the "Cedar Street Building B" sign. (Image 1)

  1. Walk down the short set of stairs to the side entrance. (Image 2)
  2. Enter through the first set of doors.
  3. To take the elevator, turn left and select Floor 4R. (Image 3)
    • OR
    • To use the stairs, continue through the second set of doors and take the staircase on your left to the fourth floor.
  4. The Insect Zoo is located on the 4th floor.

Leaving the Building

  • If using the elevator, select Floor 2R to return to the exit.
  • If using the stairs, go back down to the second floor and exit through the doors to your right.
