Meat Dawgs National Champions
The Meat Dawgs, the University of Georgia’s meat judging team, won the national title at the National High Plains Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Friona, Texas, on Oct. 30, cementing a successful return of the team after 10 years.

Beat Week 2022
Ahead of the University of Georgia and Auburn University going head-to-head on the football field on Saturday, the universities are competing off the field to raise money for their students during Beat Week from Oct. 3 through 8. This year, the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will concentrate efforts on the college’s student emergency fund.

2022 Rural Scholars
As the inaugural cohort of the Rural Scholars Program completes their first year in the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the next cohort of three scholars has been chosen.

2022 Browne Awards
Four graduate students in the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences have been honored with an E. Broadus Browne Award for Outstanding Graduate Research. Given in honor of the former director of the Georgia Agricultural Experiment Stations, the award is presented to outstanding master’s and doctorate students in CAES based on both their research and effective communication.

First Rural Scholars Cohort
A first-year animal science major from Metter, Georgia, Gracie Grimes considers her small hometown to be a haven. Her passion for agriculture, coupled with her excellent academics, helped Grimes earn one of four spots in the first cohort of the Rural Scholars Program in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

4-H Pumpkin Contest
More than 30 4-H’ers from across Georgia competed in the 2021 Georgia 4-H Pumpkin Growing Contest, with the winning pumpkin weighing in at 650 pounds. The Pumpkin Growing Contest offers students the opportunity to learn and utilize knowledge of agricultural and environmental sciences to produce prize-winning fruit.

University of Georgia Griffin campus agribusiness major Darian Adams was named the recipient of the 2021 Marie Fort Garden Club Scholarship, awarded by the Griffin-based club to a UGA-Griffin undergraduate student in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
