From the Desk of Kris Braman ...
Happy Spring Everyone! We have been very busy in the entomology department so far in 2024. It is hard to believe half the year is already behind us.
First, I would like to say congratulations to all our students who participated in professional society meeting competitions along with those who won awards recently. You all represent UGA entomology very well and we are proud of you and your research.
Spring also brings about graduation season and it was a significant event in our department this year. Congratulations to Jennifer Berry, Sudeep Pandey, Michael Catto, Nia Keyes-Scott, and Clayton Traylor for earning their PhD’s this spring semester and to Ashley McCormick and Thomas Scheyer for completing their master’s degrees. Sudeep was selected as the student speaker for the Griffin campus ceremony and represented his peers in a most eloquent way. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors!
During spring break in March, faculty members from all three campuses gathered in Athens at the State Botanical Gardens for the annual faculty retreat. We took care of a lot of business during the two-day event, but we also made time to enjoy each other’s company and have some fun!
In case you have not heard yet, the department is in the midst of a physical move to a new space on the Athens campus. We are busy cleaning labs and packing boxes and will be completely relocated to a renovated building yet to be named by the end of summer, we hope. In some ways, the move feels like an exciting adventure, but in other ways, it is hard to leave our home in Biological Sciences. Much change is ahead of us, but we look forward to visitors to our new home. Stay tuned.
