Zhongyuan Liu, a University of Georgia doctoral candidate in agricultural economics, knows that analyzing data sets won’t give you a very clear understanding of the impact of rural land reforms in China. For that, you have to talk to farmers.

Breeding Peanut Varieties
Groundnut producers face challenges in the field, from unpredictable rainfall to acidic soils to a particularly difficult menace, groundnut rosette disease. These types of challenges are the reason that plant breeders systematically create new varieties, targeting the genetic traits that carry resistance or improve yield. A project funded by the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Peanut is equipping plant breeders from across East and Southern Africa with innovative software to make that work quicker and more efficient.

Peanut Innovation Projects
The Peanut Innovation Lab’s External Advisory Panel met in Savannah Sept. 17 and 18 to discuss and prioritize dozens of project ideas in the areas of peanut nutrition and the impacts of gender and youth on peanut production, two of the four areas of inquiry for the innovation lab.

Gender Specialist
Jessica Marter-Kenyon has joined the Peanut Innovation Lab management team as an advisor on gender-related issues. As a postdoctoral research associate with the innovation lab, Marter-Kenyon holds a joint appointment with the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication at the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

After spending a year in Ghana working to provide support to farmers and leading a 4-H-style program for children, Chandler Mulvaney has a passion for international agriculture.

Auxence Muhigwa Akonkwa, a Fellow from the Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa, will visit the University of Georgia Tifton campus through the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders program.
Logan Moore is the first graduate of a new dual master's degree program in sustainable agriculture from the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) and UNIPD in Italy. He now holds master's degrees from both universities. CAES News

Time flies, especially when you’re studying a subject you love in the heart of Italy. For University of Georgia graduate student Logan Moore, who has spent the last 18 months conducting research and pursuing his master’s degree in sustainable agriculture, his time at the University of Padova, or Università degli Studi di Padova (UNIPD), has come to an end and his degrees are complete.
